It’s Like An Old Slice Of Bread
This morning I was sitting in my office, contemplating my next move. I have a pretty
big list of things that I need to do and some of them can be a bit overwhelming, if I am honest.
My office is OK. It has a window looking out onto my lovely garden, it’s warm and cosy. The dog is by my feet.
But here’s the thing, after a few days working in the same place I sometimes feel deflated and low. I often can’t put my finger on it, but I can feel it dragging me down.
And my motivation and creativity are dying.
And then I realised… I need a different perspective.
So, now I am sitting in my conservatory (no heating and it is January) with my legs under a blanket. I am slightly uncomfortable, since it is snowing outside, but I have layered up and I’m feeling good.
So, what’s the difference?
Well, being slightly “out of my comfort zone” in the chilly room is changing my perspective. I have had to adapt to my surroundings, come up with new strategies to cope, I can see more light, I’m getting fresh air and I feel quite perky!
And this is what it can be like in your business.
If you are in your comfort zone, doing what you always do, the way you have always done it, you are not growing. You are not coming out of your comfort zone and you are not getting a different perspective.
You could be becoming stale – a stale as old slice of bread
And what does that do to you and your business?
Staleness leaves a bad taste in the mouth of those who experience it. Both for your and your team. We have all seen the stale employee that sucks the energy out of the room in a meeting or the one who kills the enthusiasm you are trying to build.
They are fed up, used to being the way they are. They don’t want to change because it is easy (but boring) to stay the same and they will destroy the team and even the business if you let them.
The problem is – your comfort zone becomes stale and ingrained and really hard to pull out of and then, before you know it, you begin to lose hope and passion and just give up on your dreams.
And if this is YOU then you are in danger of having a huge negative impact on your team and business.
If you have a stale atmosphere, whether it be environment, people or attitude then you need to pull the situation back by coming out of your comfort zone. Bring some stretch into the team and yourself and find a new perspective to bring the energy back.
So, if this is resonating with you, then you need to find a way to come out of the same old same old, and leap into the new, exciting and inspiring perspective of change.
